Since founding the Chillicothe Office in 1973, John Schwemlein has provided the necessary leadership for successfully developing the skills of his employees in strengthening client relationships. The investment professionals are proud to provide a wide range of financial services to individual, corporate and investment banking clients. John specializes in all phases of investment strategies including financial, retirement, insurance and education planning, mutual funds, equities, tax-free and taxable bonds, annuities, trust services, stock options, money management and employer-sponsored retirement plans.
John previously held the position as Managing Director and Registered Investment Advisor at McDonald Investments, a subsidiary of Key Bank, when the office decided to join Janney, taking advantage of Janney’s sound investment philosophies and services. John and his staff are now able to develop individualized investment solutions for each client’s unique situation and goals.
John received his graduate degree from New York Institute of Finance and also obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Wittenberg University. He also spent 15 years as a Fighter Pilot with the United States Air Force. John has served the Chillicothe community with involvement in the YMCA of Chillicothe and Ross County; Calvary Lutheran Church and the United Way.
John and his wife, Beverly, have four sons of whom one, Ben, is a member of The Schwemlein Group. They also have four grandsons and two granddaughters. In his spare time, John enjoys piloting, fishing and playing tennis.

Clare Schwemlein is a Financial Consultant in the Chillicothe Office of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC with nearly a decade of experience in providing financial advice to both individual and institutional clients on a broad range of investment products such as financial, retirement, insurance and education planning, mutual funds, equities, tax-free and taxable bonds, annuities, trust services, money management and employer-sponsored retirement plans.
Prior to her role as Financial Consultant, Clare was the Retirement Benefits Manager at Marshall & Ilsley Corporation in Milwaukee, WI. Clare was responsible for the corporation’s 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Program, Pension and Profit Sharing Plans. She was promoted to Officer of the bank. Clare began her career at Third Federal Savings and Loan in Cleveland and later at Strong Financial Corporation in Wisconsin. At both firms, she was responsible for all employee benefits programs.
She was with McDonald Investments when the office decided to join Janney. Clare is now able to offer her clients the ability to develop individualized investment solutions for each client’s unique situation and goals.
Clare completed The Wealth Management Certification Program and now holds a certificate from the Wharton School of Business as well as the designation of Accredited Wealth Management AdvisorSM. She also earned a B.A. in Communication Studies and Writing Intensive English with a minor in Human Resources Management from Marquette University. In addition, Clare holds NYSE/FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses; State of Ohio Insurance License (life, health and variable products); Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation; Cornerstones of Successful Management certification and Integrity Sales certification. Clare is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Friends of the Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library, Newcomers Club of Chillicothe, Kiwanis and American Heart Association Heart Walk Participant.
By combining her financial experience and her writing skills, Clare authors an advice column “Ask Clare,” in the local newspaper. She encourages readers to submit questions on any investment topic.
Clare and her husband, Ben, who is also part of The Schwemlein Group, have a young son, Michael and a set of triplets, Alexandra, Joseph and Charlotte.
